Jim Edmonds had a fantastic baseball career which spanned teams including the California/Anaheim Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cincinnati Reds. His playing career spanned from 1993 to 2010 and Edmonds played as a center fielder.
Following retirement, Edmonds worked as a broadcaster for Fox Sports Midwest. It was his fielding and prolific hitting with the bat that made his name but what has been happening in the life of Edmonds since 2017?
In 2014, Edmonds married his second wife, Meghan O'Toole King. Having been together for 4 years, which included a stint for both on The Real Housewives of Orange County, it was announced they were expecting twins. They were born in June 2018 the boys were named Hart and Hayes. The two boys joined their daughter Aspen, who was born a year earlier.
However, things did not work out as planned for the married couple. In the summer of 2019, Meghan penned a post on her blog, part of which read, “I called Jimmy and he confessed to me that he had exchanged lewd photos with this woman over the course of several months and a physical relationship never existed. He paid her off to protect me so I’d never find out...Physical or not, he still had an affair and he admits this to me.”
Edmonds was quick to deny the allegations but soon changed his position when he said he had a “lapse in judgment.” Making a statement to Us Weekly, he said, “I engaged in an inappropriate conversation with this person. At no time was there any type of relationship or physical contact. Absolutely none. This is someone trying to profit from my name.”
In addition to this, it was revealed Edmonds did send texts to the woman in question and met up with her under a stadium in Atlanta. He claims the meeting took place because she was threatening to reveal to the media, they had an affair and he wanted to ensure that did not happen. The lady in question was Jennifer McFelia Villegas and she denied she was trying to blackmail Edmonds.
Later in the year, the couple tried to make things work out but it was not to be. Edmonds attended a hockey game with their 22 year old nanny and that seemed to put an end to any chance they had of saving their marriage. Commenting on the incident, Edmonds said via an Instagram post “I was with my best friend and his child. I was trying to do something nice for the girl who just had her boyfriend dumped [sic] her.” Both parties denied anything happened between them but in October 2019, the couple filed for divorce.
Since then, Edmonds has moved on and at the time of writing is dating Kortnie O'Connor. The news was shared by Edmonds in an Instagram story on the 14th of April and he called Kortnie his ‘quarantined workout partner’. For baseball fans, Edmonds fans and anyone who has watched The Real Housewives of Orange County, this was huge news. However, in many ways it was not as big as the news which preceded it involving Edmonds’ health.

It emerged in late March, Edmonds was admitted to hospital having displayed symptoms of COVID-19. He was left feeling terribly ill and having been take to hospital, a test discovered he had coronavirus. Prior to going to hospital, Edmonds had taken things into his own hands and was self-isolating at home, away from his family. Speaking on his Instagram account, Edmonds said, “Thank god I quarantined myself and listened to what everyone said and kept our curve at my house flattened.” Thankfully, Edmonds recovered quickly from the virus due to plenty of rest and has made a full recovery from the disease. He talked about it in an interview for St. Louis Post-Dispatch on May 5th, 2020. He also went on to make a statement, saying “Do not take this lightly. If you do not feel good, go to the doctor or go to the emergency room if you can't breathe because that's what happened to me. They didn't want to test me, and I forced them to take me to the emergency room, and lo and behold, pneumonia and the virus, so don't take it lightly," Jim said. "Take care of yourselves.”
With over 150,000 followers on Instagram, it was the perfect opportunity to try and help out other people who may be in the same position. Edmonds has always worked hard to keep himself in great condition but was keen to highlight his case which shows even the fittest members of society can catch COVID-19 and it must be treated extremely seriously.
